Taking Action to Increase Local Water Supplies

The Foothill Municipal Water District Board of Directors has launched a program to increase the supply of local water to lessen the dependence on imported water.

The program includes developing more local water and encouraging more efficient use of water by consumers.

New water would come from the use of recycled water and the capture of stormwater for groundwater recharge. This, together with more efficient use of water, would help Foothill meet state conservation goals.

Developing Three Part Water Supply Solution

RECYCLED WATER: Recycled water is already used in our area and its use is growing rapidly throughout the state. Foothill is proposing a phased program that will provide recycled water for large landscape irrigation and for recharging groundwater basins.

STORMWATER CAPTURE AND RECHARGE: In wet years, large quantities of stormwater are lost as water pours out of mountain canyons. Foothill proposes capturing more of that water and storing it in the groundwater basin for later use.

WATER EFFICIENCY ALSO A RESOURCE: Using water efficiently means improving the ways we use water, so that we can do more with less. Modern weather-based controls, low-water-use plantings and water efficient appliances can save substantial amounts of water.
